FREQUENT QUESTIONS

Honest, calm answers to common questions about submissions, rights, artists, and our plans.

QUESTION 01 01

Do writers pay to submit?

We never ask writers for money upfront. No submission, development or publishing fees. To recover our effort in developing chosen stories, we agree on a revenue arrangement with the writer in writing before work begins: how much, when, and how payments are made.

QUESTION 02 02

Do you take the rights to my story?

We never ask for full rights to a story. If we choose a story, we ask only for production rights: the right to produce and publish the manga. The writer keeps the story. The exact scope, duration and territory are written in the agreement.

QUESTION 03 03

How does the studio earn?

We invest our time, artists and money in the stories we choose. To recover that effort, we agree on a revenue arrangement with the writer in writing before work begins: how much, when, and how payments are made.

QUESTION 04 04

Who owns the artwork?

This is set out in the written agreement before any work begins.

QUESTION 05 05

Where will it be published?

Depending on the project, we either publish together (the writer and Studio Gijutsu credited together) on our own digital platform, which is planned and not yet launched, and on other digital platforms where possible; or we hand the finished production-level manga to the writer to publish, under the written agreement.

QUESTION 06 06

Do you make anime?

Animation is a future ambition only (it depends on success, rights, funding and partners). If a story is ever adapted, the writer's creative role and share will be agreed in writing in advance.

QUESTION 07 07

How long until I hear back?

We read stories and look for real potential. However, we cannot promise a reply to every enquiry.

QUESTION 08 08

Do you use AI?

We explore creative technology as a reference and ideation tool, but our manga pages, characters, line art, and final artwork are created in collaboration with human artists. We believe in human storytelling and craftsmanship.
